Daniel, 20, from Madeley, Telford, failed to return from a night out with friends in Shrewsbury town centre on November 22.

Police and members of the public have joined in searches around the Buttermarket, where he was last seen on CCTV, since then to try and find him but as yet have had no success.

Chief Inspector Tom Harding said: "There have been some potential sightings from all over the country by people who think they have seen Daniel.

"But after reviewing CCTV in the sightings and talking with the parents they have been able to confirm that they are not him.

"We have had reported sightings far from Shropshire, which shows that people really are trying to help and locate Daniel.

"The searches will continue in Shrewsbury and in the river."

Searches have been carried out in the area by police officers and dog handlers and West Midlands Search and Rescue have been searching the river and its banks over the last three weeks.

Inspector Harding said these will continue when they can, but that the recent high river levels have made things difficult.

Specialist teams from Nottingham Police and Dyfed-Powys Police have been involved.

A week after Daniel's disappearance hundreds of his friends and family armed with "missing" posters printed by the Shropshire Star, searched the area and distributed posters around the town.

Daniel's mother Lorraine Firmstone has also made a heartfelt plea for anyone with information that might bring her son back to come forward.

She said: "We can't bear to think of Christmas without Dan."

Daniel last spoke to his mother at 5.30am on Sunday, November 23, when she called to offer him a lift home.

His family and police are extremely concerned as his disappearance is out of character.

Anyone with information is asked to call the police on 101.
