30 firefighters battle severe blaze at bungalow
About 30 firefighters tackled a blaze which caused severe damage to a bungalow near Oswestry.
The fire happened in Rectory Close, Trefonen, at about 3.45pm yesterday and caused the roof to collapse. There was severe smoke and fire damage to the property.
Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service said the cause of the fire is being investigated but it is not being treated as suspicious.
No-one was injured and the occupants managed to get out before firefighters arrived. Crews from Baschurch, Ellesmere, Oswestry, Shrewsbury and Tweedale in Telford were called to the scene and spent about an hour getting the fire under control.
Adam Matthews, station manager based at Telford, said: "On arrival we were met with a bungalow fire and the roof space was fully involved in fire.
"When we got there everybody was out. The occupier had a pet dog which was also out of the property.
"They did have working smoke alarms but the occupier saw the flames and managed to get out of the property."
The fire comes just days after a similar blaze in a bungalow in Summerhill Gardens, Market Drayton.
Two rooms – the kitchen and utility – were severely damaged by fire and smoke following the blaze, which happened at about 11.30pm on Tuesday.
