Shropshire canal death man named
A man whose body was found in a Shropshire canal lock has been named.
Robert Charles Kelly, 61, was found by a member of the public in a dry section of canal in Grindley Brook, near Whitchurch, on December 22. It is understood Mr Kelly lived in the Whitchurch area.
The news has been met with sadness by the town's mayor Councillor Rob Hewson, while police have said Mr Kelly's death is not being treated as suspicious. An inquest into the death will be held on a later date.
Councillor Hewson said: "I am shocked by the news. My feelings go out to his friends and family. It's a shame tragedy happens, especially at this time of year."
A spokeswoman for West Mercia Police said: "His death is not being treated as suspicious and the coroner has been informed."
