Telford man in all-year Wrekin run
An engineer today completed a challenge in memory of his grandmother by running up and down The Wrekin every day for a year.
Tim Stevens, 26, from St Georges, took on the challenge to raise money for Severn Hospice, which looked after his grandmother just before she died.
Mr Stevens said he hopes to hand over a cheque for up to £800 to the hospice in Telford once he has collected all sponsorship money.
He said: "Me and a mate were training when we came up with the idea. We decided over a few drinks in the pub that we should challenge ourselves to reach the summit of The Wrekin 365 times, then after a while I thought why not do it for charity?
"I have really enjoyed my challenge and although it has been a bit tedious, it's for a good cause so it hasn't stopped me.
"I have also had quite a few people join me along the way and my mate completed about 130 of the runs, but I have mainly done it on my own."
No matter what the weather, Mr Stevens has continued to push himself, even sometimes walking due to a knee injury.
"The fastest I have completed a run is roughly 21 minutes, but it really depends on the day. It normally takes about 35 minutes, and sometimes I have walked it," he said.
"I have to admit that when you're doing hill repeats in the dark and rain it's not that nice.
"There are many charities that I believe are doing a great job. However, Severn Hospice is very close to my heart due to the care that my nan, Pamela Perry, received in the last few months of her life."
Mr Stevens' grandfather, John Perry, said he is proud of what his grandson had achieved.
Mr Stevens has so far raised £580, but hopes to raise between £700 and £800 for the hospice, which cares for terminally-ill patients from across Shropshire and Powys.
