The Special Stamp programme, which celebrates events and commemorates anniversaries of UK heritage and life, was launched in 1965.

It includes images of stamps that feature iconic buildings and landscapes of the West Midlands and Shropshire.

One of the stamps included in the collection is from 2011 and features Ironbridge and another in 2004 celebrated the Severn Valley Railway.

Shropshire's Wolves and England football captain Billy Wright featured on a set of commemorative stamps from 1996 called Football Legends.

The famous Holyhead to Liverpool mail coach run in 1828, which stopped in Shrewsbury, made it into the gallery from the 1984 collection to mark the bicentenary of the first mail coach run, a horse-drawn carriage that delivered mail.

Also featured in the special gallery from 2009 was a stamp to mark the birth bicentenary of Charles Darwin, Shrewsbury's most famous son.

A fireplace decoration from Attingham Park in Shropshire featured in the centenary of the National Trust gallery from 1995, while the county's Carding Mill Valley scooped a spot in A British Journey-England 2006.

Gorge Parish Councillor Maureen Bragg said: "I am delighted to see that our stamp has been recognised and will feature in this online gallery, it really is an honour.

"It is a lovely stamp and it is very nice to see that it is still being recognised to this day. It is great news for the area and the fact that it has been chosen highlights that Ironbridge is a lovely place to live."
