Two hurt after car rolls over in Shropshire crash

Two people required hospital treatment after the car they were in rolled over and ended up at the bottom of a bank near Shrewsbury.

The female passenger suffered several broken bones and the male driver was left with minor injuries following the crash on Leigh Road in Minsterley.

The woman had to be rescued by firefighters after she became trapped in the Ford Mondeo. The pair were taken to the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital following the crash, which happened shortly before 11pm on Wednesday.

Police say no other vehicle is believed to have been involved.

Inspector James Ashton, of West Mercia Police, said: "We were called to a single vehicle road traffic collision where the ambulance and fire service attended to help extract a person who was trapped inside a vehicle.

"That was a female passenger. We would not consider her injuries to be life threatening, but she has got unpleasant injuries such as a few broken bones.

"The male driver suffered minor injuries and both went to the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital. The car left the road, went into a field, rolled over and ended up at the bottom of a bank."

Firefighters from Minsterley, Shrewsbury and Wellington attended.

Firefighters from Wellington Fire Station tweeted: "Crews have assisted ambulance to release one casualty near the village of Leigh #minsterley difficult extrication."
