Ashley Davies said he thought he had just been punched in the ribs in a fist fight near a caravan park in Craven Arms.

The no-weapons brawl was with Jim Price, a member of a travelling family staying at Craven Arms in April 2013.

But Mr Davies told the jury at Stafford Crown Court the knife attacker was Jim's father, David Price.

"That's when my friends started shouting 'he's stabbed you, he's stabbed you'. I lifted my top up and saw, just a hole, red. It took my breath, I started hyperventilating and sweating."

Mr Davies, now 20, said he remembered the helicopter and being flown by air ambulance to Birmingham where he spent eight days in hospital. Luckily, the knife did not cause any serious internal damage.

Price, 44, formerly of the caravan park, denies unlawfully wounding Mr Davies with intent to do him grievous bodily harm and an alternative charge of unlawful wounding.

The trial continues.
