Inquest opens into death of Daniel Hodgin

An inquest into Daniel Hodgin who went missing on a night out with friends in Shrewsbury has been opened.

Daniel, 20, of Madeley, Telford, disappeared on November 23, and was last seen at the Buttermarket nightclub.

His body was found in the River Severn on New Year's Eve.

Coroner Mr John Ellery heard today that a team of West Midlands Search and Rescue volunteers discovered a body in the river at Cressage, 10-miles south of Shrewsbury, just after midday on December 31.

Mr Hodgin was identified by his dental records.

Daniel last spoke to his mother at 5.30am on Sunday, November 23, when she called to offer him a lift home.

During the seven week search for Daniel specialist diving teams from West Mercia Police, Nottingham Police and Dyfed-Powys Police searched the River Severn.

The inquest was adjourned until March 31.
