500 sign petition against fence near Oswestry doctors surgery
Hundreds of people have signed a petition protesting about a fence which has stopped patients at a doctor's surgery from using a nearby walkway.
The Caxton Patient Group petition against the fence between Aldi supermarket in Oswestry and the Caxton surgery and pharmacy has been signed by about 500 people.
It says people are being forced to walk across a busy junction, often with wheelchairs or pushchairs.
John Gentle, superintendent pharmacist at The Pharmacy @ Caxton, said: "I am very pleased the patient group wanted to begin this petition and I am pleased we have been able to carry it in our pharmacy and help to collect signatures.
"People will come in to collect a prescription and talk about how they have been affected by it. It means elderly patients and mothers with pushchairs are being made to walk around the busy junction, dicing with death as cars go through three entrances."
The fence between the two buildings in Oswald Road and Beatrice Street means pedestrians who want to visit both sites have to walk an extra 200 yards, cross two busy driveways and walk through the supermarket car park.
The petition was launched on October 11 and will be handed in to supermarket bosses soon.
Caxton Surgery manager James Bradbury said:
"I hope the number of signatures we have will compel the supermarket to reverse this decision."
Aldi was unavailable for comment.
