Drive to improve Bridgnorth launched
A fresh drive has been launched to create more jobs, encourage people to take up sport and improve the appearance of streets in a Shropshire town.
Four focus groups have been set up by Vision Bridgnorth to meet aims laid out in the town's plan more than three years ago.
The town's new £90,000 skate park on Crown Meadow – one of the key objectives of the plan – was built last year and is already being used by young people in the town. An official launch event will be held in the spring.
One of the "theme groups" will concentrate on the appearance of the town centre, transport and shopping.
Employment, training and learning, tourism and commerce will be looked at by another group, while a further committee will focus on improving health and well being through the town's sport, leisure, community and youth facilities.
The Bridgnorth environment group will have the widest remit, looking at the town's environment, housing and development, crime and community safety.
Tom Brettell, spokesman for Vision Bridgnorth, said getting the remainder of the plan into action had been a long and arduous task.
"We were particularly affected by how we structured the management and control of the vast amount of community-related projects that we wanted to complete," he said. "However, we are confident that under the umbrella of our recently set up charitable interest group Vision Bridgnorth, the people of Bridgnorth can have a real focal point to accomplish great things for the town.
"Its remit is principally to be the co-ordinating body that can give assistance and help deliver the plan, but ultimately it's all about people getting involved."
Mr Brettell said Vision Bridgnorth was not "another council initiative" but would be driven by the Bridgnorth community.
The next Vision Bridgnorth meeting will be held at College House in St Leonard's Close on January 21 at 5.30pm.
