MP: North Shropshire missing out on health care

North Shropshire is missing out when it comes to health care because of squabbling between Shrewsbury and Telford, according to MP Owen Paterson.

The former Environment Secretary said that towns in his constituency are getting left out amid "bickering" over plans to create single emergency care centre for the county.

Speaking at a meeting of local current affairs group Pints and Points of View in Whitchurch last night, he said: "Telford and Shrewsbury are squabbling away. Whatever happens between the two, the current system is not suitable for north Shropshire."

The MP was quizzed at the White Bear in High Street by residents who claimed the current centre in Telford was "shabby" and that staff worked "flat out".

Mr Paterson said he believed the best way forward for north Shropshire would be one central unit, surrounded by smaller centres to provide other services.
