Resident and councillor, Terry Evans, says the stench can be smelled along the main road through Chirk, but the problem emanates from a sewerage "dosing station" a few miles out of the town.

He wants Welsh Water to find a permanent solution to the problem.

Councillor Evans, who is on Wrexham County Borough Council, said that it was a reoccurring problem which hit Chirk again yesterday.

He added: "The smell at the entrance to Lodgevale is absolutely appalling."

Gwyn Thomas, of Welsh Water, said: "We are aware of reports of odour affecting parts of Chirk and are investigating if there is any link to our waste water network.

"We have odour monitors in place at various points on our network.

"Customers can also assist us by immediately reporting any odours which they believe are linked to our network."

To report an odour call 0800 085 3968.
