Watch: Hairdressers from Shropshire compete for place in national competition
Trainee hairdressers were let loose on models and given the chance to be creative at a giant contest at a Shropshire college.
More than 80 students at Telford College of Arts and Technology were busy putting the final touches to their weird and wonderful creations ready to be judged by salon owners.
And the top 13 creations will also be entered in a national competition, which will be held in Blackpool in March.
The different categories the students were given included, beautiful bride, creative future, a night at the prom and through the ages, and everyone had to create a mood board showing how they developed the idea.
Nicki Longden, professional manager for hairdressing at TCAT, said: "This is the first year we have done this competition and the students have really taken to it. We have kept the categories and judging style very close to the Winter Gardens competition in Blackpool.
"We had 81 students take part in the competition and we have helped them along the way. It really has been great and the students seem to have really enjoyed themselves, and they have produced some excellent work."
One judge Hayley Box, who works at House of Beauty in Shifnal, said these type of college competitions are extremely important to trainee hair stylists.
"These competitions are amazing and it gets the students thinking outside the box, and about competitions, so it's really great seeing so many people taking part in it.
"I have done a bit of teaching here a few years ago and I saw behind the scenes and it is a really good college."
Hayley was asked to judge the make up , as she has worked on The Only Way Is Essex, as well as working with The Saturdays.
Another judge Deborah Hinton from Rizzos in Shrewsbury, said "I am very impressed with some of the work produced here today as they are all fairly new to the industry.
"These competitions really encourages the students to be creative and also try out new things. It has been very hard to pick a winner."
The college's onsite salon, The Retreat, was recently reopened after undergoing a £125,000 refurbishment.
The salon was opened by former student Deborah Mitchell, who runs Heaven Health and Beauty in Shifnal, and has worked with Victoria Beckham and Gwyneth Paltrow.
