Barn fire which destroyed £20,000 of hay was arson, say fire service

A fire that destroyed about £20,000 worth of hay at a barn is being treated as arson.

Firefighters from eight stations in north Shropshire were called to the fire at Dobson's Bridge in Whixall at about 4.15am on Sunday when 500 tonnes of hay and a tractor went up in flames.

The barn is owned by Cyril Forrester and rented by dairy farmer David Edgerton of Rack Lane Farm, Rack Lane, Whixall.

A spokesman for Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service said: "This fire was set deliberately. Anyone with any information is asked to contact West Mercia Police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800555111."
