A Shropshire wedding dress showroom that has raised £8,000 for charity is to close – and is offering romantic lovebirds the chance to snap up a bargain in time for Valentine's Day.

The Barnardo's shop in Cross Street, Oswestry, is selling off its entire collection of 200 new and original wedding dresses and bridesmaids' frocks after running the showroom for a very successful year.

Shop manager Claire Macmillan said: "It's brought in a lot of extra revenue for us, but now because we're not getting the stock in any more there doesn't seem much point in continuing.

"All the dresses came from a bridal shop in Wellington that's closing down.

"There's still plenty of dresses left and if someone wants to bring a bridal party and have the room to themselves to look around and try things on we can organise that.

"We have all shapes and sizes and styles of dresses. We have some sets of bridesmaids dresses, but there are plenty of choices of colours so even if you can't find a pair, you can coordinate the colours."

All the wedding dresses are priced £40 – including those by top-name brands including Alfred Angelo, Divina Sposa, Christine Elisabeth and Linzi Jay. All are brand new and they include ex-sample garments, end-of-line or catwalk items in sizes ranging from 8 to 24. Some are washable and some dry cleanable, and they have never been worn before.

Bridesmaids' and flower girls' outfits, which would also be suitable for proms, are priced at £15 and will fit anyone from a toddler to an adult. There is also a small selection of menswear, tiaras and shoes.

Mrs Macmillan added: "A lady from a bridal wear shop came in and took some of the dresses, but there are some gorgeous dresses still available."
