OsFest cancelled for 2015 and long term future in doubt
A major music festival which has brought the likes of Razorlight, JLS and Example to Shropshire will not go ahead this year after "a lack of audience support".
The organisers of OsFest, which had previously attracted big names to Oswestry, say the festival will not go ahead this summer and future events may also be in doubt.
In a statement, the organising committee said: "OsFest would like to thank everybody that has come and supported the event over the last five years.
"Unfortunately though, due to many factors in 2014 - being let down by key artists, hurricanes and a lack of audience support, among others - we are sad to say that OsFest is not going to be viable for 2015 and we will therefore be taking a break for the foreseeable future.
"To our loyal supporters, a very big thank you and we are really sorry if you are disappointed that we won't be back this year. Never say never, watch this space."
OsFest was launched in 2010 with 5,000 people attending.
Last year's event was plagued with problems after a last-minute change of dates, moving to August just two weeks before it was due to take place over the spring bank holiday weekend.
Organisers then had to deal with the disappointment of acts including Paloma Faith pulling out of the two-day event at the 11th hour.
And the showground was then battered by high winds from ex-hurricane Bertha which threatened to make the stage unstable.
Following the festival, event organiser Carly Jackson thanked fans for their support, but admitted "it would be the easiest decision in the world to never run Osfest again" after the problems the event faced.
But she also warned that the festival needed bigger audiences "or sadly Oswestry may lose one of its very few major event assets".
She said: "We have invested hundreds of thousands of pounds trying to bring something good to Oswestry. In the past five years we have brought to Shropshire: Razorlight, Example, JLS, Union J, Lawson, Stooshe, Hard-Fi, The Enemy, Tinchy Stryder, Union J, The Feeling, The Pigeon Detectives, Wiley, Jaguar Skills, Dappy and Foxes to name just a few of the 400 acts that have played here."
