Bosses of Brookfield Nursing Home, in Forton Road, Newport, decided it was no longer financially viable.

All residents were moved from the privately owned home to alternative care by January 31, according to Telford & Wrekin Council.

In a statement on behalf of Brookfield Nursing Home LLP, Melissa Pace said: "Brookfield has always strived to provide the very best quality care in a homely environment.

"Our thanks for many years of dedicated support is extended to all the staff that have worked at Brookfield over the years.

"Brookfield has worked closely with the local authority, residents and relatives to ensure a safe and managed re-homing of all residents to other local care providers.

"Brookfield has provided more than 40 years' care in Newport. It has been a privilege to serve the local community of Newport during this time and this has made the decision to close even more difficult."

Russell Griffin, Telford & Wrekin Council spokesman, said: "All residents have now moved to appropriate alternative care settings prior to closure - which was managed smoothly with the provider."

The home housed18 residents in seven single and six shared rooms.

Managers did not say what would happen to the Forton Road building.
