Three flee Bishop's Castle bungalow blaze
Three people escaped from a bungalow in Bishop's Castle this morning after a fire in a fuse box spread to the roof.
Smoke alarms alerted a couple and a young person to the fire at the property in Harley Jenkins Street in the town at 3.20am.
The first crew to arrive found flames licking above the front door, station commander for Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service, Mark Weaver said.
Crews from Bishop's Castle, Clun and Craven Arms were soon on scene.
Four firefighters donned breathing apparatus to fight the blaze.
"The fire started in the fuse box in the hallway and, because it was a bungalow it would quickly spread to the roof space," Mr Weaver said.
"We set up a fire break by removing tiles from the roof, removed insulation and checked for any hot spots in the attic."
"The three occupants in the bungalow managed to get out of the property before firefighters arrived."
Mr Weaver said had the smoke alarms not sounded the fire could have much worse.
"This shows the importance of having working smoke alarms fitted."
