Oswestry Ford Capri is star of sale
A classic car which has been lovingly looked after by one lady owner since 1983 will now become a star on the big screen.
The Ford Capri was bought new from Furrows in Oswestry, but its owner decided to sell because she wasn't making use of it any more.
Jamie Newman, from auctioneers Aston Barclay, said the sale brought in a record number of people, but the new owners had placed their bid online.
"The new owner is a TV company based in Dagenham," he said.
"They supply vehicles for film, television and media, for period dramas and so on, so we could be seeing it on screen soon."
Mr Newman said the car had been valued at £5,000 and was being sold with a £3,500 reserve.
"It sold for £9,100 and it had the most views on our website that we've ever had," he said.
"I think it was the rarity of the vehicle that really sold it. We did a bit of research and you can't find any vehicle the same colour anywhere in the country of the same quality.
"My boss has been in the industry for a long time and she's never seen one like this before.
"The lady kept her receipts for everything that was ever done to it – every service and MOT – and it has only done 19,000 miles.
"It was her pride and joy for many years, and she hopes that it will bring many more for the new owner."
The auction was held at Aston Barclay's base in Prees Heath, near Whitchurch, last week and was a dealer and general part exchange auction.
Lisa Grimsley, remarketing director at Aston Barclay, said: "The response from our marketing was incredible. We were proud to be able to offer the vehicle on behalf of an owner that had cherished it from new. The vehicle exceeded all expectations by achieving a sale price of £9,100.
"This is proof that classic vehicles that have been cared for will always find their place in the market and any documentation that is kept will enable the vehicles history to be verified and only enhance the price."
It will be something of a return to Essex for the Capri. Many of the popular racy models were built at Ford's plant in Dagenham. The fastback was a smaller cousin of the American Ford Mustang and was produced in Europe from 1969 to 1986.
