Clashes expected as Shropshire features on Channel 4's Come Dine With Me
Roger Summers is appearing on popular television show Come Dine with Me – and has warned viewers to prepare for a major clash of personalities.
Roger, from Brookside, in Telford, is a contestant on next Tuesday's show.
The Channel 4 programme follows four people as they take turns to cook a meal for each other and then rate the food and how much they enjoyed their evening.
The 31-year-old, who works at at The Thomas Botfield pub in Telford Shopping Centre, had pleasant expectations of the show but was in for quite a shock.
"It was a crazy experience being on the show," he says. "I really thought I would get along well with everyone but there were some arguments and a big clash of personalities.
"They cast us extremely well. I'm a very honest person and I will happily say I don't like something if I don't like it.
"It was still very thrilling to be a part of despite how we didn't all get along and we offended each other. I have dealt with complaints before, doing what I do.
"Thankfully the lady I thought I wouldn't get along with on paper was the only person I've managed to keep in touch with so the whole experience was just a big surprise."
Filming took place in June last year."
"I don't easily get intimidated but it was actually quite intimidating having the cameras on you," Roger says."It was particularly crazy when they were all in my house. It was very intense and we weren't finished until about 1am.
"The scoring is a strange feeling as well. You forget it's Come Dine with Me until that part happens. I think we all found the experience quite surreal."
Single man Roger cooked a starter of tomato soup, a main course of chilli and rice with homemade garlic bread and served double chocolate mousse for dessert.
"The chocolate mousse wasn't something I was experienced in making so that was a bit of a gamble I suppose," he says. "The other two courses I improvised a lot with, just shoved a lot of stuff into a pan really.
"There were plenty of comments about my menu being quite simple, but it's something I knew I would be able to cook. I didn't really get much time to practise at all; I only knew about a week before filming that I was going to be on."
The other contestants in Roger's episode are a woman from Market Drayton, a man from Donnington and a man from Stafford.
Roger adds: "It is really nice for Telford to be on Come Dine with Me.
I fully enjoyed the experience and I know I will definitely be watching it back. I hope the people of Telford enjoying viewing it."
The show is will be on Channel 4 on Tuesday at 4pm.
