Renewed calls to make Shropshire accident blackspot safer
More calls have been made for money to be spent on an accident blackspot in Shropshire.
While millions of pounds have been spent to improve three roundabouts on the A5, little has been done to help motorists trying to negotiate the Shottaton crossroads on the trunk road between Shrewsbury and Oswestry.
The junction was recognised as dangerous more than a decade ago when the Highways Agency installed a speed camera and a 40mph limit.
But since 2003 no other safety improvements have been made.
Shropshire Councillor for the area, Nick Bardsley, said it was ridiculous there was nothing in the roads programme for the crossroads.
"The Highways Agency has spent millions of pounds on roundabouts on the A5 despite there being no complaints about them from motorists.
"Yet the Shottaton crossroads, which people have complained about for years, has had not improvements since the speed camera was installed in 2003."
His calls come after North Shropshire MP, Owen Paterson, met with the Minister of State for Transport, John Hayes, to discuss the state of the A5. He has campaigned for more to be done to improve the road between Shrewsbury and Ruabon across the Welsh border since taking office in 1997.
