Telford drink-driver banned after hitting parked car
A Telford drink-driver crashed into the back of a stationary car while carrying a young passenger, a court was told.
Prosecuting at Telford Magistrates Court, Mr Mike Phillips said Glyn Roberts, 34, was not present at the scene when police arrived at 6.30pm on January 28.
The collision took place near the defendant's home address in Waverley, Woodside, when Roberts' silver Ford Ka collided with a stationary blue Peugeot.
Mr Phillips said police had spoken with Roberts' partner who explained that the defendant had taken a nine-year-old boy, who was a passenger in the car, back to his house.
Roberts returned to the scene at 8.15pm and admitted to police that he had had a few drinks a few hours before the accident, the court was told.
He failed a road side breath test and was arrested, blowing a final reading of 63 microgrammes of alcohol in 100ml of breath – the legal limit is 35 microgrammes.
Roberts admitted one charge of driving with excess alcohol when he appeared at Telford Magistrates Court on Monday.
The court was told that this was his second such offence, after he had been convicted of drink driving in January 2013.
He was banned from driving for three years and fined £240. He was also ordered to pay £85 costs and a £24 victim surcharge.
Roberts, who was not represented in court, said he had "a bit of a drinking problem for some time".
"It's taken this offence to help me see this and I have started seeking help," he said.
He told the court that he had been seeking treatment through Portico House in Wellington.
