An author from Telford gets first book published

A Hadley author has achieved a lifetime ambition after having his first ever book published.

Ivor White, of Hadley, has written The Secret of Limekiln Wood – The Adventure Begins.

After walking a wood more than two years ago, Mr White said he got chatting to a man who told him a story about a German aircraft dropping three bombs on a similar beauty spot in the 1940s and creating an oasis.

Mr White, who had wanted to write a book since school, said the story "bugged" him and he knew there was a tale in it.

He quit his job for Royal Mail as a postman in Newport after 14 years in 2012 to concentrate on writing the story - and the book is now available on Amazon and as an eBook.

He said: "It is an adventure story and I wanted to write it with children in mind but also as something that could be read by adults. It is about a young loner not very confident and finds himself in a situation where an adventure is available."

The boy hears about the oasis - a paradise - and decides to travel to it to find it is well guarded.

The story was finally picked up last year by Olympia publishers.

Mr White, 47, of Ellen Court, added: "This is my first book that is being published. I used to loved writing at school and I remember teachers saying you could be a writer but it is something that I just never followed, life caught up with me and it was about 2011 I started to write again because I felt this story was quite special.

"Writing it was an emotional journey with highs and lows, you can have brilliant days where you write two or three pages and the following day you can read it back and realise it is not quite right and you have to start again.

"Overall the experience was very enjoyable.

"It was done in my spare time. My hope is to do this professionally, if this is a success I want to do it full time. I have had positive feedback so far and this is for adults too. A 10 year old would enjoy it but it is also written with the view of adults reading it as well."

He described the moment he held the finished copy in his hand for the first time as "amazing".

He said: "Just to receive the copy of it is brilliant.

"It was a wonderful feeling. Nearly two years of work and to have that confirmation that it was worthy and going to be a book was magical it is brilliant."
