Purchase of Whitchurch vehicle will be van-tastic
A town council has agreed to spend more than £2,000 on a new van to help carry out day-to-day council business.
Members of Whitchurch Town Council agreed that staff should have an official vehicle. As a result they decided to buy a van for £2,500 to enable the facilities team to complete necessary tasks around the town.
Councillor Rob Hewson, mayor of Whitchurch, said: "We all agreed to purchase the van as it is an excellent facility for us.
"It will help our handy man carry out more tasks in the town.
"It is a great asset to have and we hope to purchase the van as soon as possible."
Also discussed at the town council meeting, held in the Edward German room in Whitchurch on Thursday, was an update on £7,300 of funding given to the town council for a First World War project.
Michelle Wilson, town clerk, said: "A grant has been given to us from the lottery to build a display cabinet in the Civic Centre for a First World War display.
"In the cabinet the poppy that Councillor Hewson purchased from the Tower of London poppy display will be put in for all to admire.
"Hopefully it will be able to stay there for three years.
"We will also use the money to clean the cenotaph and put some names on which have been missed off."
