Telford groom ties knot after 5k run in a wedding dress
Many bridegrooms pace the floor on the morning of their wedding trying to conquer pre-marital nerves.
But Shropshire's Danny Richards went one stage further – by pounding around Telford Town Park, dressed in a bridal gown.
The bridegroom decided to take part in the Telford Park Run on Saturday – even though he was getting married just a few hours later – to raise money for his London Marathon appeal for Children with Cancer UK.
So while bride, Sami, was preparing for her big day, Danny and 10 of his groomsmen donned dresses to run the five kilometre park run in Telford Town Park.
With the 'bride's bouquet' doubling as a collection bucket the men collected donations from amazed spectators and also from many of the 276 runners who took park in the event which marked the Telford Park Run's second birthday.
After the run Danny thanked everyone who supported him and apologised for not stopping for the birthday celebrations.
"It really helped with those pre-race nerves and we have raised £60 pounds so far just from this morning. Everyone was so generous. I am sorry we didn't come for the cake, but I was a little busy getting married."
Later, tying the knot, he said the couple had had "the most memorable day of our lives". The member of Newport and District Running Club is in training for the London Marathon in April.
He is running the 26.2 miles in aid of Children with Cancer UK and has to raise £2,500.
