Telford man, 35, attacked father during row at home
A Telford man who attacked his father and then threatened to beat him so hard he would end up in an institution has been given 160 hours' community service.
Brett George, 35, was also given an indefinite restraining order not to contact his father directly or indirectly, save through solicitors, or visit his parents' address in Oakengates.
Prosecuting at Telford Magistrates Court, Mrs Kate Price said that George had been living with his parents at the time of the attack on January 20.
She said he had returned home after drinking with friends and become involved in a row with his father.
Mrs Price said George's father had told him to leave the house and that the defendant had responded: "Don't look at me like that again because I will break your arms and wrists and throw you round the room and institutionalise you."
She said the defendant had started throwing punches at his father, leaving him bleeding in the kitchen.
He also threw a wine glass, shattering a glass cabinet.
George, of Brereton, Brookside, had previously pleaded guilty to one charge of assault by beating and criminal damage at a hearing at Telford Magistrates Court on February 4. Magistrates gave him an 18-month community order with 18 months of supervision and ordered him to carry out 160 hours of unpaid work.
He was also told to pay prosecution costs of £85 and a victim surcharge of £60.
However, the bench decided not to order George to pay compensation to his father, saying they feared that would further inflame the incident.
Mr Chris Grainger, for George, said that while the row was heated, the actual assault "was not a sustained attack".
