Two fires broke out on properties in the Shropshire countryside this afternoon, one at a youth hostel, the other at a farm.

The first blaze involved an oil-fired boiler that set alight at Clun Mill Youth Hostel, in Grey Bank, Clun.

The fire broke out at about 1pm, but was confined to the boiler room.

Two fire crews from Bishops Castle and Clun put the blaze out in about 45 minutes.

Shortly afterwards about 18 tonnes of hay caught fire at a barn in Doddington, near Clee Hill.

Again the blaze was dealt with swiftly, this time by crews from Bridgnorth, Cleobury Mortimer, Craven Arms and Ludlow.

Crews had the fire under control by 4pm and were damping down with help from the farmer who owns the barn.
