Two cyclists suffer facial injuries in Newport
Two cyclists suffered facial injuries after coming off their bikes in Newport.
One cyclist came off his bike on the junction near the A41 and A518 after touching wheels with another cyclist during a training race.
The man suffered a broken cheekbone and was taken to the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital just after midday on Sunday.
A status posted on Newport Shropshire Cycling Club's Facebook page said: "Thanks for all your enquiries about Pete France and the other riders who came down.
"Pete has sustained a broken cheek bone and will need surgery to fix the bones and realign his eye.
"He is very bruised, but we have been told that he is in good spirits.
"Get well soon Pete."
Earlier in the day a woman in her 30s also came off her bike when she hit a pothole in Newport.
Again she suffered facial injuries and has reported the pothole to the council.
