Man attacked with an axe outside Telford shop
An axe-wielding attacker set upon a man outside a Telford shop, police have revealed.
It happened at the Premier Store and Moores General Stores in Madeley Road on the Woodside estate.
The attacker, travelling in the passenger seat of a silver Volkswagen Polo, stopped in the car park of the store Premier Store, police say. He got out of the vehicle, carrying a one-foot long wooden handled axe, and approached the victim.
He hit the 22-year-old a number of times in the leg. However, the victim received only slight injuries.
The attack happened on Friday night, but West Mercia Police only revealed details at 6pm yesterday. Witnesses are urged to call police on 101.
Officers say the victim knew his attacker.
Councillor Kevin Guy, who represents the Woodside ward, said he was shocked by the news.
He said: "I don't know the details and haven't spoken to the police myself, but I am shocked.
"Woodside itself as an area has quite low crime, especially in terms of violent crime like this."
Councillor Rae Evans, who also represents the ward said she could not believe what had happened.
She said: "I am very surprised and shocked by this. Whenever we councillors walk around Woodside the people are always so polite and friendly, and that is from the adults right down to the children.
"I am saddened to hear this and I hope that whoever the unfortunate victim was makes a swift and full recovery.
Police are urging anyone who was in the area at the time, and may have witnessed the attack to contact police on 101 quoting incident number 416 of March 6.
