Guide to Shrewsbury's bars launched as an app
Visitors, shoppers and revellers in Shrewsbury now have a new and independent local guide to help them find their perfect pub.
The BarNav app is the brainchild of two young entrepreneurs who hope to roll the innovation out across the country.
It can be downloaded to Apple iPhones and aims to give a clear and unbiased assessment of the best bars in town.
Primary school teacher Antony Hyett and applications developer Dean Brindley commissioned hundreds of secret assessments of premises in Shrewsbury in order to set up the app.
Antony said: "We now have over 35 Shrewsbury pubs and bars listed on the app, including The Libertine, Porter House, Blind Tiger and Henry Tudor House, giving comments on location, atmosphere, standards of service and general information on prices and food, right up to whether or not dogs are welcome!"
The first places to help launch BarNav were the Havana Republic, Peach Tree and C21 venues in Abbey Foregate, Shrewsbury, and spokesman Grant Lees, said: "We were approached to become involved with the app and were very impressed with the potential we saw in its future as it is clear, concise and is packed with really useful information.
"We are delighted to be featured as this is a part of the demand for new and exciting social media products and is a fully independent and unbiased yet stylish guide which gives customers a really open and honest appraisal of the best bars in town."
Antony added: "We are currently developing the BarNav app to cover other cities such as Wolverhampton, Birmingham and Liverpool and eventually we hope to cover the whole country.
"However, Shrewsbury, with its fantastic range of individual bars and restaurants, was chosen as the ideal location for us to launch the app."
