New president of Newport and District Agricultural Society named
Cyclist Andrew Craddock is in the saddle as the new president of the Newport Show.
The Lilleshall farmer has taken over the reins of the 106th show, which takes place at Chetwynd Deer Park on July 11.
Mr Craddock, 46, who succeeds June Tavernor, will be the third in his farming family to take on the role following in the footsteps of his father, David, and grandfather Doug Craddock, back in the 60s.
His mother Margaret was secretary of the livestock section for more than 10 years and his wife Caroline will support the show by judging food stands and fancy dress.
It will be the most ambitious show to be staged by Newport and District Agricultural Society and the father-of-two is heading up a team planning an action-packed event.
He said: "Every year we aim to make the show bigger and better than the last."
Meanwhile Mr Craddock, of Hill Farm, Church Road, is training for a London to Paris cycling marathon in May to raise funds for Birmingham Children's Hospital and Children with Cancer UK. He is part of Team Benji, a group of Shropshire people touched by the plight of Market Drayton youngster Benjamin Crawford, who is suffering from childhood bone cancer.
