Child approached by stranger and offered sweets near primary school
Police are investigating a suspicious incident near to Ivington Primary School, near Leominster, where a pupil of the school was approached by a stranger and offered sweets.
This happened in the village of Ivington, just over the Shropshire border, at about 4pm on Thursday when a pupil was playing on the green outside the school when a small dark blue car like a mini came near.
The male driver stopped and offered the boy sweets. The boy ran to a nearby relative and alerted them.
The driver was described as a white man, approximately in his 40s with long hair.
Police are investigating the incident and the school has been assisting with the enquiry.
Detective Sergeant Tim Powell of Hereford CID said: "We are investigating this suspicious incident. We have already begun to view CCTV in the area. I am aware there were other parents in the area at the time who may have witnessed the incident without realising.
"The child was unhurt and the driver made no other attempt to speak to him. The child did the right thing in not engaging with a man he didn't know and immediately alerting a relative."
The children and staff were spoken to about dealing with strangers by a local Police officer today.
