Mayor reopens Shifnal park
Sometimes it's hard to resist having a go – even if you are the town's mayor.
Councillor Robert Harrop got back in touch with his younger self when he reopened a refurbished play park.
The Mayor of Shifnal formally reopened the town's Jubilee Park – which has been revamped thanks to a grant from the National Lottery. That gave him the perfect opportunity to jump onto the swings and have a go on the new see-saw.
The refurbishment was paid for with £10,000 from the Big Lottery Fund – Awards For All.
Shropshire Council has also removed some of the big leylandii trees that run along the footpath by the park from Church Street to Dyas Mews, in a bid to make the area more open and brighter.
The playground has already proven a big hit with children – although the reopening was also marred by vandals, who have damaged some equipment and left broken glass in the area. The mayor said: "It is great to see another community area being refurbished but it is sad when it was damaged after just being opened. This type of behaviour is inexcusable and reflects badly on the people of Shifnal."
Anyone who has any information about the vandalism can call police on 101.
