Man who died after head-on smash on Aston Expressway named
A man who died after a head-on smash on the Aston Expressway on Monday has been named as Birmingham man Andi Patrascu.
Mr Patrascu, from Preston Road, Hockley, died shortly after the silver Rover MG he was driving into Birmingham at 12.30pm veered towards out-of-city traffic and collided with two cars.
The 43-year-old was taken to hospital where he died as a result of his injuries.
Mr Patrascu was a Romanian national who had been living in the UK for more than 30 years.
Officers from West Midlands Police's Collision Investigation Unit have spoken to many witnesses but are still keen to hear from anyone who saw what happened but have not yet contacted police.
PC Stuart Thorpe said: "It's clear the Rover MG crossed the tidal flow lane and into traffic heading away from the city ? but we are still trying to understand why this happened.
"I am appealing for anyone in the area at the time of the collision, or before the crash in the Gravelly Hill interchange area, and who saw a silver Rover MG to contact us on the 101 number.
"Our condolences go to Mr Patrascu's family and his friends."
Two other drivers were taken to hospital to be treated for injuries and discharged.
