Shropshire villagers in move to stop 'noisy' motocross events
A group of villagers is campaigning against a motocross event to put an end to noisy weekends.
People in Horton, near Wem, have banded together to try to end a motocross event held there twice a yeare.
But organisers have said they have little choice where to hold the meeting.
Martin Parrish, 62, lives in the village and said he was advised to move his horses while the event was held on Sunday.
He said: "It is the noise. It is such a loud event. We had about 40 residents who were all against the event being held there as it is an inappropriate site for a motocross event. It is only 320 metres from my house and some are closer."
Mr Parrish said residents have been concerned about the event, which happens twice a year, as well as regular use of the site for training.
He said: "There is another event set for the first week of May but we are writing a letter with all our concerns and we hope that will stop the event happening."
But the meeting, hosted by Cressage Motocross Club, was improved compared to last year, according to organisers.
John Hayward, chairman of the club, said: "As members of the Amateur Motorcycle Association we have to hold two events a year and we don't have much choice where. There is a very limited number of tracks."
Mr Hayward admitted last year's event
had left mud on the roads and was noisy. But he said the club had measures in place to reduce the impact on nearby homes.
He said: "We have put requirements on bikers to not have exhausts that exceed 96 decibels."
He added: "We are not there to upset people. But if we took on concerns about all the different shows you can have there probably wouldn't be any."
