Two men threw a brick at the window of Georgiana Antique & Interiors, in Ellesmere, shattering the glass, in the early hours raid and then kicked in the door.

They went for the shop's e-cigarette stand, but were disturbed by the tenant in the flat above the business.

Julie George, who has run the shop for nearly a year, said: "The man in the flat above heard the commotion and came downstairs and spooked them."

The men left with five e-cigarette kits, worth around £200, but Ms George said they would have taken more if the tenant had not acted.

"He went out and ran after them. I am sure if they had not been disturbed they would have stolen more."

She added: "People have been so helpful and I was able to open the shop in the Sunday afternoon. A few e-cigarette kits and spares were stolen but it could have been much worse.

"I am just so disappointed that young and probably local lads feel they have to do this to a local business in their own town."

Ms George said CCTV outside the shop had been unable to capture good images of the men, so she would be installing a camera inside the shop.

The locks have already been changed and the window replaced.

Police Constable Dave Wagg said two white teenagers were seen running away from the shop in hooded tops, one grey and one blue, after the break-in, which happened between 3.30am and 4am on Sunday, March 22.

Anyone with any information is asked to contact Constable 2497 Wagg at West Mercia Police on 101, quoting incident number 137S of 220315.
