Plan for restaurant at former Telford nightclub
Plans have been submitted to convert a former nightclub in Telford into a bistro-style restaurant and bar, creating up to six jobs.
Oakengates Town Council has put in an application to open a first-floor restaurant opposite the town's theatre and overlooking Theatre Square.
The proposal would also see new council chambers and office space built for the authority.
The restaurant would replace the former Office Nightclub, which hosted a number of TV stars as special VIP guests before shutting its doors in 2011.
The plans submitted with the scheme reveal it is hoped the development would create one full-time job and five part-time positions.
Proposed opening hours for the restaurant and bar would be 12.30pm to 10.30pm from Monday to Saturday, and noon to 10.30pm on Saturday. It would be closed on Sundays and bank holidays.
The council chambers would be open from 9am to 5pm Monday to Friday, while the building would be available to the community from 11am to 4.30pm in the week.
Under the plans, the first floor of the building in Market Street would also become the new home of the town council, which is currently based at the theatre over the road.
As well as the restaurant, the blueprint shows there would be the council chambers and an office, interview room and seminar room on the first floor. A bar area would seat up to 78 people, with dining space inside for 68 people and a further 24 outside on a covered balcony looking out on to Theatre Square.
Before it closed in 2011, The Office Nightclub hosted a number of "meet and greets" with stars from hit TV shows including Shameless, Hollyoaks and Emmerdale.
Among those to visit Telford were Rebecca Atkinson and Ciaran Griffiths, who played Karen Maguire and Mickey Maguire in Shameless.
Emmerdale stars Danny Miller and Kelvin Fletcher – Aaron Livesy and Andy Sugden in the soap – were also there as was Ashley Taylor-Dawson, who played Darren Osborne in Hollyoaks.
The consultation period for comments on the planning application ends on April 23.
A decision will be taken, either by planning officers or by Telford & Wrekin Council's planning committee, on a date to be set after the consultation has finished.
