No one was injured but staff were left assessing the damage following the fire on Saturday at 5.45pm.

A restaurant worker said: "We are still not sure at the moment what caused the fire. We're still trying to find out.

"It started at the beginning of our trade but we still don't know too much about what happened.

"At the moment we are just assessing the damage but we're hopeful we can sort everything out soon.

"Everything was carried out accordingly as far as the evacuation was concerned so everyone was fine in that sense."

Police sealed off part of the busy road while firefighters dealt with the fire.

Firefighters from Minsterley, Shrewsbury and Tweedale took two hours to bring the flames under control.

Inspector Mark Reilly of West Mercia Police said: "We shut the nearby petrol station as a precaution and the roads to let the fire service carry out its work.

"The fire may have started at the back near the kitchen but fire investigation was looking into it.

"The roads and the garage reopened as usual just before 10pm."

An ambulance was also at the scene as a precaution.
