Rogue dinghy results in River Severn search for missing person
Police searched for missing person after a member of the public noticed a dingy floating down the River Severn.
But after a thorough search using rescue boats and a helicopter police out the incident down to a rogue dingy in Shrewsbury.
Inspector Mark Reilly said the call on Saturday came in at 3.50pm was eventually put down to a no incident but with good intent.
He said: "We had reports of a dingy floating towards Atcham so we had to have a look.
"We sent officers to search the river in Shrewsbury and officers further down the line to intercept the dingy at Atcham.
"Fire and rescue deployed the rescue boat and we also had the police helicopter searching for any heat sources in the river.
"After a lengthy search we believe the dingy was somehow released from a property along the river.
"But we'd still like to thank the member of public for informing us."
