The victim, a 21-year-old woman, was walking along a footpath off Whitchurch Drive near Furrows Garage, when she was grabbed by the throat from behind and dragged into bushes.

At this point, a couple appeared further along the footpath heading in their direction. The offender then ran off.

The attack took place on Good Friday at around 4pm.

The suspect is described as white, around 5ft 2ins, of an average build and spoke with a foreign accent.

Sergeant Jez Gardner, the investigating officer, said: "This is an incident which we are taking very seriously and believe the intention of the offender was to rape the victim.

"We are eager to speak to the couple, as they may have information to help us with our inquiries. I also urge anyone who saw a man of this description in the area at the time to get in contact with police."

Anyone with information is asked to call West Mercia Police on 101, quoting incident 572S of Saturday, April 11.
