Welshpool teenager caught with cannabis wraps said he was under pressure to sell them
A 19-year-old man who had individual wraps of cannabis and a grinder in his car felt pressured into selling it, a court heard.
Stanley Chapman was found with 18 separate wraps of cannabis and the grinding machine on him when police stopped him while he was driving. A search of his home uncovered a bottle of methadone, and his phone was seized and messages showed that he had been looking to sell the wraps, Welshpool Magistrates Court was told.
Chapman, of St Mary's Place, Union Street, Welshpool, was given a 12-month supervision and drug rehabilitation order and told to pay fines and costs of £280 when he appeared in court yesterday.
He had admitted at an earlier hearing three charges of possessing drugs and one of possession of cannabis with intent to supply. Mrs Helen Tench, prosecuting, explained how the drugs and equipment had been found by police, and added while on bail police came across Chapman in a car smoking heroin.
Miss Ceri Edwards, for Chapman, said her client had begun by smoking cannabis, went on to experiment with heroin and things then spiralled out of control.
"As text messages showed he felt pressured to sell the cannabis," she said.
She said Chapman had referred himself to the Kaleidoscope drugs clinic. Magistrates said Chapman was at a crossroads and urged him not to spoil his future.
