More than 150 cyclists sign up for Georgia Williams fund event
More than 150 cyclists have signed up for a charity bike ride in memory of murdered Telford student Georgia Williams.
Organisers of the Georgia Williams Trust Spring Challenge Ride said they were continuing to receive entries ahead of Sunday's event.
Riders of all abilities will take on routes ranging from a nine-mile course for families to an 80-mile challenge for experienced bikers.
One of those who has signed up is reigning Miss Shropshire Amy Louise Henry.
Proceeds will be split between the trust and West Midlands Search and Rescue.
Georgia was 17 when she was killed in 2013 by Jamie Reynolds, who is serving a whole life sentence. Her body was found in North Wales four days after she went missing from her Telford home.
Stephen Darlington, organiser of the event, said: "We are based at the AFC Telford, New Bucks Head ground and Telford College of Arts and Technology (TCAT) for the day and we have a choice of three rides for people to join, depending on their ability.
"We have an 80-mile challenging ride for the more experienced riders or those that want to step up a level."
He added: "There is also an extended family ride and for the very youngest, plus cycle coaching sessions provided by the Newport Cycling Club at the ground, which is aimed at four to 10-year-olds.
"These children must be able to ride a pedal bike and their bikes must be in good working order.
"There will be activities and refreshments at the ground also."
Georgia's mother and event co-organiser, Lynnette Williams said so far around 160 people have already signed up to take part.
"Everyone is really looking forward to the event and it should be a great day, and hopefully the nice weather we're having will continue on Sunday.
"We have so much going on during the day as well as the ride, so people can enjoy entertainment at the AFC Telford ground while supporting the riders.
"This is the first year we have done this event and we hope to make it an annual thing, which can only go from strength to strength.
"So far we have about 160 people signed up but lots of people are still emailing me to say they want to take part, so the numbers keep growing," she said.
"We are very grateful to AFC Telford, TCAT and to our major sponsors and helpers."
Mrs Williams added: "Proceeds from the event will be split between the Georgia Williams Trust and WMSAR – the local rescue charity whose specialist members helped during the search for Georgia."
Telford company, Greenhous are providing support vehicles and has supplied the signage for the routes and the cyclist numbers.
The day starts for the more elite riders at 8.30am with entertainment being provided throughout the day at the football ground.
