Man, 31, arrested after attacks on teenage girls in Telford

A man has been arrested after two teenage girls were attacked in Telford.

The 31-year-old man from Wellington handed himself into police following an appeal on Shropshirestar.com

The victims, both aged 15, were attacked on Sunday at around 2.30pm in Wellington.

One of the victims from Hadley, was attacked as she walked with a friend along New Street, near Greggs. She was taken to hospital with facial injuries.

The second victim was attacked at Wellington Railway Station, as she made her way up the step towards the bridge.

A British Transport Police spokesman, said: "Following extensive coverage in the media, a 31-year-old man from Wellington voluntarily attended a police station late last night, where he was subsequently arrested on suspicion of assault.

"He was taken into custody where he was deemed unfit to be interviewed and has since been detained under the Mental Health Act.

"He is currently on police bail until Monday, May 25.

"I would like to thank the media for their assistance in publishing this appeal, which led to the man contacting police directly and volunteering his details, as well as the members of public who came forward with valuable information."
