Four of the five candidates standing in The Wrekin attended the hustings at the Wellington campus.

They were Mark Pritchard who is seeking to retain his seat for the Conservatives, Katrina Gilman for Labour, Rod Keyes for the Liberal Democrats, and Cath Edwards for the Green Party.

Ukip's Jill Seymour was absent, since the serving MEP was in Strasbourg on European Parliament business.

A mock "vote" was held among the student audience, and the results were Labour 42 per cent, Conservatives 15 per cent, Green Party 13 per cent and Lib Dems five per cent.

But there were also a large number of people not convinced with any of the arguments, with 23 per cent voting "none of the above".

Telford College principal Chris Scott said: "It was an excellent debate, driven by some good questions from our students – not least the issue surrounding recent significant cuts to the further education sector, and focus on apprenticeships.

"It is important that younger electors feel connected to the political process – that's why we were delighted to have hosted the hustings. It was a great success."
