Museum boost over war items surprise at Shrewsbury charity shop
When staff at a Shrewsbury charity shop opened a box of donations they didn't expect to find something that would one day end up in the country's leading war museum.
But that is just what happened at the Extra Care charity shop in Radbrook Green, Shrewsbury.
For inside the box was a pair of World War Two Spitfire pilot's flying goggles, aviation glasses, a reconnaissance camera and various medals. And they are of such historic importance that they will be winging their way to the Imperial War Museum and also to RAF Cosford.
Nicola Miles, from Extra Care, said: "We don't know who donated the items to us but they all came together in a box."We approached the Imperial War Museum in London to ask them about the items and they were very interested in the medals.
"They had been awarded to someone whose war journals were already on display in the museum so they would help to make up a better archive of them.
"The flying goggles and the pilot's aviation glasses, both of which belonged to a Spitfire pilot, will be going to RAF Cosford."
