Pen is mightier as rude, crude cartoon counts as a vote for MP Glyn Davies
A crude cartoon scrawled on a voting form next to the name of Montgomeryshire MP Glyn Davies was counted as a valid vote - after a ruling by the presiding officer at last night's election count.
The ballot paper featured a drawing of male genitalia next to Mr Davies's name.
Mr Davies, who retained his seat with a majority of 5,325, said all candidates were shown the ballot paper before it was classed as an acceptable vote during the count at Welshpool's Flash Leisure Centre last night.
Mr Davies, who became the first Conservative to ever hold the seat in Montgomeryshire, said he was "amazed" but grateful for the vote.
He said: "One voter decided to draw a detailed representation of a penis instead of a cross in my box on one ballot paper.
"Amazingly, because it was neatly drawn within the confines of the box the returning officer deemed it a valid vote.
"Not sure the artist meant it to count, but I am grateful. If I knew who it was, I would like to thank him or her personally."
