John O'Groats to Land's End mobility scooter record attempt hits Shropshire
An army veteran was today travelling through Shropshire on his mammoth journey from John O'Groats to Land's End on an electric mobility scooter.
Andy McIntosh, 42, from Strathaven near Glasgow, is on his way to beat the world record for the fastest journey from one end of the country to the other – and today he was driving through Market Drayton.
The disabled army corporal retired from the army fully fit but in 2008 found that he had a rare vascular condition which means his circulation and mobility is restricted.
Mr McIntosh said: "There have been a lot of tears since receiving the news that my condition is untreatable, but I am a man that never gives up.
"This world record attempt will be a real challenge, but gives me a focus to remain positive." He started his journey on May 5 and is using the trip to raise awareness and funds for charities that have helped hims.
He is driving a TGA Breeze for his journey across the length of Britain. The current world record time for this journey stands at 24 days, 9 hours – he hopes to finish in under 16 days.
