Pupils affected as flood problems go on at Telford school

Areas of one of Telford's biggest schools will be out of action for weeks after flooding caused some pupils to miss two days of classes.

The problem was first reported at The Phoenix Academy, in Dawley, on Thursday and was blamed on a leaking tap.

The building was shut to pupils in Years 7, 8 and 9 but remained open as usual for pupils in Years 10 and 11, due to exams.

Now parents have been told that the flooding has hitaffected a significant proportion of the school and the affected area will be out of use for several weeks.

In a letter sent out to parents yesterday, acting principal Steven Carter said: "We are currently in the process of securing some temporary classrooms to ensure that all students can continue with their normal curriculum.

"However, this solution is unlikely to be in place before Wednesday 20th May at the earliest."Therefore, at this time we are unable to accommodate all year groups and I need to inform you that the school will be closed to Year 8 students on Monday 18th and Tuesday 19th May."

Work packs have been sent home with pupils so they can continue their studies while they are unable to attend lessons.
