Prince Edward unveiled a commemorative plaque after touring the school.
He also enjoyed a demonstration of Taiko drumming by pupils – partly as a tribute to the Earl's recent visit to Korea and his own suggestion to Haberdasher Schools that such a group might be set up.
Guests included Audley Twiston-Davies, Master of the Haberdashers, and Lord Lieutenant Sir Algernon Heber-Percy and his wife Lady Jane Heber-Percy.
The welcome party also included Michael Barratt, a former headmaster responsible for the fundraising for the new block.
