Market Drayton Rock and Bowl Festival could be the biggest yet, organisers have said ahead of the opening tomorrow.

The three-day festival will see local artists take to the stage and thousands flock to the town's picnic area on Newport Road to watch.

Laurence Payne, one of the event organisers, said: "All the signs are there for it to be a record-breaking year. We have sold more tickets up front than we have done before, and we know the weather is forecast to be good.

"So we are keeping our fingers crossed that it does stay bright because it does make a difference.

"We definitely think it could be bigger this year."

The festival started off at the back of the Coach and Horses pub in the town but over the years has grown to a popular platform for local musicians.

There will be 24 bands on the main stage and another nine on the second stage.

Gates will open tomorrow from noon and the festival will begin at 2pm, finishing at 10.30pm on Monday .

Tickets are available at www.rockandbowlfestival.com, The Sandbrook Vaults on Shropshire Street, or the Red Lion on Great Hales Street.
